The wine-coloured zellige is presented in this model in a rectangular format. It is called bejmat because it is reminiscent of Moroccan pastries with anise and orange blossom in the shape of a briquette! But the bejmat also has the characteristic of not being beveled on its edges. Not recut therefore, it gives off a raw and natural authenticity. Handmade, the wine-coloured zellige comes from the region of Fez, where the clay is extracted, mixed with water. The tesserae, once modeled, are fired at high temperature then enameled, using metal oxides, to which powders are sometimes added to obtain the desired shades. A double firing is thus essential because it is at this moment that the shades are revealed on their surface with natural irregularities and under the variable incandescence of the flames. The bejmat, under its fragile mother-of-pearl appearance, is therefore a tile resistant to heat and humidity. It is therefore the star of kitchen and bathroom wall coverings, but can also dress bathtub aprons, interior chimney jambs.
Refinement of wine-coloured bejmat
The wine-coloured bejmat is a deep red, close to Bordeaux red, which distils its elegant and noble mother-of-pearl on the backsplashes of your kitchens, the splashbacks of your bathrooms, pillars to embellish. The advantage of the bejmat format is that it offers many installation possibilities: staggered, checkered, staircase, herringbone, horizontal, diagonal. If you want a very graphic effect, we recommend a checkerboard or braided installation. If you like refinement, the retro and dynamic spirit of the herringbone will suit you. This is the immense asset of Moroccan zellige: it allows customization according to your tastes and the art of customization is the big trend!
